Society for Applied Microwave Electronics Engineering & Research
SAMEER was set up as an autonomous R & D laboratory at Mumbai under the then Department of Electronics, Government of India with a broad mandate to undertake R & D work in the areas of Microwave Engineering and Electromagnetic Engineering Technology. It is an offshoot of the special microwave products unit (SMPU) set up in 1977 at the TATA INSTITUTE OF FUNDAMENTAL RESEARCH (TIFR), Mumbai. SAMEER, Mumbai was setup in 1984..

SAMEER is the only organisation in the country which has developed LINAC machines for medical applications. This has been done jointly with CSIO and PGI, Chandigarh. Technology for 4-6 MeV machines has been developed.
SIDDHARTH- the 6 MV Medical Linac (Linear Accelerator) was developed under the Jai-Vigyan Mission of the Government of India. It conforms with IEC standards for radiological and non-radiological safety and is Type Approved by Atomic Energy Regulatory Board, Mumbai, India. The first unit is operational at MGIMS, near Mahatma Gandhi Ashram at Sewagram, Maharashtra, India ,while the second unit is operational at Old Cancer Institute, Canal Road, Adyar, Chennai; both treating a large number of patients from the economically weaker class.
Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC), as we know, is the ability of equipment and systems to function as designed in their intended operational environment without adversely disturbing or being affected by other equipment or systems. Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) has become a topic of extreme concern for manufacturers and users of electronic products in the Global Market. Design of an electronic equipment to comply with National/International EMC Standards Calls for the reduction of its immunity to external EMI. Keeping in mind the EMC testing needs of the industry in the western region of the country, SAMEER has decided to set up EMI/EMC facilities at their MUMBAI Centre.
RADAR DIVISION: The atmospheric remote sensing division is mainly pursuing the activities related to RF and acoustic remote sensing equipments for probing the atmosphere in order to obtain the vertical profiles of wind velocities and temperatures.
